FEIT Superclean Elk

The FEIT Superclean was the perfect example of doing a lot, but not doing much. Australian Tull Price’s focus is building the highest quality product possible, and this latest release, the Superclean Elk, is a shinning example of this philosophy. As with all FEIT footwear, the Superclean Elk is completely handmade, this time from luxurious unlined Elk suede to give a more rugged looking soft leather outer. Limited to only 15 pairs, so you better get a move on. Available for pre-order here.

Nike Air Pegasus ‘91

Perhaps one of Nike’s most successful running shoe that was surprisingly not designed by Tinker Hatfield, the ’91 Air Pegasus is set for a re-release for the Spring of 2011. With the run of ’89 Air Pegasus’ that were released in a myriad of colors over the past few seasons, including an interesting hybrid with ACG, not to mention a couple of ’83s a couple of years back, it was just a matter of time. While this isn’t the preferred colorway for the purists, here’s hoping this retro release follows suit with the rest of the previous releases with more colorways to come.

Vans SK8-Hi × Filson Rucksack

Vans has been putting together some terrific collaborations with some pretty difficult-to-crack, heritage companies as of late. If you were impressed with the Brooks Saddles Vans Vault that was previewed earlier this month, you’ll be equally impressed with Filson’s trademark canvas and leather on these Sk8-Hi’s. A nice precursor to Filson’s soon-to-be-released black label collection that will be produced and designed in Italy and available only to European markets. Soto Berlin will debut the Vans Vault x Filson Fall 2010 Collaboration with an assortment of other collaborations.

AIR MAX 1-A-DAY GALLERY

Few kicks have aged as well as Nike’s Air Max line. After almost 25 years, countless models accompanied by that signature cushioned heel have kept Air Max at the forefront of sneaker freakdom. Everyone has their favourite, be it Charles Barkley’s CB 34 or the infamous Air Stab, but most will agree that the O.G. model is second to none. Among those in accordance would be Matt Stevens. The Creative Director and Senior Designer at HAWSE has taken his affection to new, interesting heights with the Air Max 1-a-Day Gallery, an ongoing project featuring a daily reinterpretation of the Nike model. Each entry showcases both Stevens’ skills and the AM1′s endless potential for design opportunity and aesthetic appeal. The highlight is the ‘Tribute Series’ he put together as a shout-out to his “favorite and most personally inspiring designers, illustrators and thinkers.” Pictured above is his homage to The Small Stakes’ Jason Munn; more after the jump.

FEIT Superclean

While we’ve always been impressed with their made-to-measure/private label offering, the latest design from footwear-makers FEIT has looks reminiscent of your favorite pair of Common Projects and an exclusiveness typically found in extremely high-fashion pieces. Completely hand-made using 100% natural materials, the Superclean has mastered the minimalist aesthetic; lightweight, with the fewest visible stitches possible. Made of either white Llama or Brown Kangaroo high-quality, unlined leather, it also features an all natural sole crafted from the milk of the Hevea tree, and a 2 piece insole of buffalo leather and cork. The Supercleans, like all FEIT models, are produced by hand in extremely small qualities (60 pairs will be made), with shoemaking techniques rarely found today. Available for pre-order here while supplies last.

Pointer × Comme des Garcons Collection

Since we slipped them on our feet, we’ve appreciated the look and feel of UK-based Pointer Footwear. In fact, the simplicity of the aesthetic is key in making them such a valued find. The recent announcement of a collaborative effort between the footwear brand and fashion powerhouse CDG definitely adds a level of intrigue and distinguished class to the brand and while Kawakubo designs are typically out of reach to the mainstream, this collection keeps it simple and casual. Almost too simple to be honest, as we’re missing some flair and controversy in these leather laceups and loafers based on previous Tanju, Barajas II and Angus silhouettes. Still you can’t miss the understated style that Comme des Garcons evidently brought to the table for this collaboration. Available for Autumn/Winter 2010, exclusively through Comme des Garcons channels.

LANVIN PATENT METALLIC SNEAKERS

It’s been a long time since we’ve mentioned Lanvin, but we haven’t been overly impressed with the recent collections. Even this seasons’ seems a bit off, whether it be an out of place color or flash of odd material, though we realize we can’t always mention our love for the monochrome options. We’ve always favored the high top versus the low as there aren’t many great options for high tops, especially when one is looking for something in quality suede and leather. Available here.

Nike78 Project

Nike78 is a design project initiated by soon-to-be LCC graduate Paul Jenkins, who has given 78 pairs of Nike shoes out to designers and creatives internationally and asked them to “challenge the function of a pair of Nike shoes”. The results are now up in an online gallery. Among our favorites: Knitted trainers, one made from cake and the one above from Wieden + Kennedy TokyoLAB, which sees a Nike shoe reconfigured as a fish tank (see it in action after the jump).

“The project came about after the LCC was offered a selection of shoes by Nike that were leftover from its 1948 concept store, for a student to use in a project. Jenkins came up with the idea to use the shoes to encourage new design ideas. In devising the list of collaborators, he drew on the knowledge he attained while interning in Berlin as part of the LCC ‘year in industry’ that selected students on the BA Graphic and Media Design take part in. ‘Whilst I was interning in Berlin, my night job was sourcing creative talent worldwide,” says Jenkins. “I didn’t want Nike78 to be just another creative project with the same people and the same styles of work produced. Instead I invited people who from their style/work/projects I could see had a touch of conceptual excellence.”

The Old Curiousity Shop Lace Up Boots

While we’re sure that suede boots are not the first thing on your mind as we head into summer, this handmade derby-style example is a bit special.  The Old Curiousity Shop was first built in 1567 and inspired the Charles Dickens book of the same name.  In 1992, Daita Kimura took over the space and re-opened the shop offering handmade shoes.  Kimura’s latest boot offering is a simple high cut in black suede with a full leather lining.  It also features a top-of-the-line, never-say-die Itshide Commando rubber sole.  These boots are made to last and will only get better with age.  Available at Oki-Ni.

Volta ALL CANVAS

Already having been fans of Volta’s modern take on the classic chukka, we’re delighted to see the Italian brand put their aesthetically pleasing silhouette on an all-canvas shoe that’s perfectly designed for the warm months to come. The color palette is simple and clean -stripped down to the essentials: white, navy, brown, black and army green with a look that is sure to become one your favorites this season. Available at select retailers worldwide.

Common Projects 5 Hole Slip On

Thankfully this season, Common Projects has decided to forego the Velcro and with good reason after Peter Poopat rather Flavio Girolami famously claimed the decision as a “mistake”. The two-tone selections from this seasons line up provide a nice continuation of previous basic, single colored offerings while keeping the luxurious feel of Italian Nappa leather albeit with black nubuck inserts. Though you’ll find a canvas version from Van’s at a cut rate, there’s no finer shoe to go sockless this summer than one from CP. Available here.
