Robert Geller Officer Vest

Robert Geller’s short career path is the envy of almost all designers.  After moving from Germany to attend RISD, he joined Marc Jacobs and contributed to four lines, before joining Alexandre Plokhov in the redesign of Cloak, where he contributed to five lines that won awards from the Ecco Domani to a Vogue/CFDA grant.  He launched his own line in 2007 and the plaudits for his sharp downtown designs have come from all corners.  Here he rethinks the vest with a two-tone plum and black waistcoat.  It exudes versatility in spades, both in all-weather wearability (made from 60% linen) and design, with a unique collar and cut that would look equally as good over a dress shirt and tie as it would over your favorite henley or t-shirt.  In fact, nearly any vest is great for layering and vibe, this one just offers a bit more.  Available here.

Humor Nerve Jacket

Humor
is a young Danish brand which takes inspiration from worldwide DJ and electronic music culture, mixing and sampling colors and materials from  movements past and present to create something fresh.  Their newest collection is a colorful mix directly inspired by the people of Tokyo’s Shibuya district.  One standout is the Nerve bomber jacket in a light grey suede.  It features a ribbed knitted hem, a knitted tabbed collar, which can stand up or down, and a panelled design on the front and back, which is raised to one side and recessed on the other for that extra pop.  Available here.

Billykirk Carryalls in Navy

Our regular readers don’t need reminding of our love for all things Billykirk.  Their Amish handmade leather accessories give you that perfect blend of classic and understated, with a healthy dose of modern silhouettes, and rugged durability.  Their waxed cotton carryalls are a particular favorite, which we’ve covered before, but we wanted to draw attention to their new navy colorway.  Personally, I’m always a fan of a navy and black combination.  It’s both extremely versatile and completely modern.  It’s amazing to think that not too long ago the combination was frowned upon in more staid circles (actually, it probably still is in the particularly crusty climes).  Thumb your nose at those peeps.  Available here.

Creep Tailored Work Jacket

Founded in Osaka in 1998 and now based in Toronto, Creep by Hiroshi Awai is yet another quality Japanese take on classic American workwear.  Here, Awai brings us a tailored, slim cut work jacket in a chalk-striped navy blue.  The jacket has a riveted three-button front with a stand-up collar, and features a hunting-style patch over the right shoulder and assymetrical chest pockets.  One interesting detail is the layered hip pockets with rounded button flap pockets concealing an extra patch pocket underneath.  Available here.

Heckler Design One Less Desk

Several years ago, designer Dean Heckler decided to leave behind a successful business as a software UX/UI designer for the decidedly more risky prospect of furniture design.  In our opinion, he has been instantly vindicated with his minimal and perfectly functional OneLessDesk design.  Heckler created it out of a distaste for the more common heavy wood desk designs that didn’t seem to jive with our modern flat screen monitors and sleek titanium notebooks.  The powder-coated steel design incorporates two “decks”, one slightly larger than the other which tucks underneath it.  All told, the desk only occupies 12 inches of room space when tucked together.  They are crafted in Phoenix, Arizona, and come finished in red, yellow, white, silver, and black, as well as custom color options at an extra cost.  You can also add the OneLessStand or OneLessFile.  They are all available direct here.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Grand Sweater

Marc Jacobs‘ designs down the years have always skirted the line between serious fashion and outright playfulness to great effect.  As his career has hit dizzying heights with his own line and his work for Louis Vuitton, often forgotten is the fact that his infamously irreverent “grunge” line for Perry Ellis in 1993 led to his eventual firing and nearly extinguished his career before it really started.  On the flip side, his diffusion Marc by Marc Jacobs men’s line can at times feel a bit trendy and underworked.  However, here he brings us a more discerning design in the form of a motorcycle jacket-inspired sweater.  It comes in a black and white marled knit blend of linen and cotton with an offset zip front featuring black tape trim and a notch collar with silver snaps.  It also features side and front zip pockets as well as zip closures at the sleeve for the full motorcycle effect.  Available here.

Kris Van Assche Black Combo Sneakers

Kris Van Assche can really split opinions with his extraordinary sneaker designs.  Of course, such is the dilemma for any creative who works outside of the proverbial box.  The Dior Homme creative director’s tendency to go over-the-top with velcro straps seems to be the real dividing line.  While his newest high top look is devoid of velcro, it does bring an exaggerated laces look.  It also features his somewhat signature tie detail at the back of the ankle.  For us, what really sets this design off is the tonal contrast created by the laces in combination with the goat suede tongue and side gussets versus the smooth leather of the upper and toe box.  Available here.

Ralph Lauren Black Label Escape Nylon Jacket

Obviously, Ralph Lauren needs no introduction.  He’s built an empire in his brand that is almost beyond compare with over $5 billion in estimated revenues for 2009 and a personal fortune estimated near $2.8 billion.  In its over 40-year existence, he’s seen his brand, and all of its various offshoots, woven through a myriad of cultures, in and out of vogue, enough to fill far, far more space than we have here.  He created his Black Label brand (positioned just below the Purple Label) in 2005 to cater to the modern man with slimmer silhouettes, higher armholes, and fresh materials.  Born directly from these ideals, his Escape nylon M65-style jacket caught our eye.  It’s “Gehry Grey” (read: silver) weather-resistant main is perfectly offset by the medium brown leather tab details at the collar and sleeves.  It also has a two-way front zip with leather tab leading to a point collar that actually folds into a standing collar using the snap closure.  It’s the perfect marriage of construction and detail, which is what Ralph Lauren, at his best, is really all about.  Available here.

Our Legacy Vintage Wash Denim Placket Shirt

If you’re the type who keeps an eye on The Sartorialist or Tommy Ton’s Jak and Jil blog, then you no doubt noticed the resurgence of the denim shirt in highly-fashionable circles in Milan and Paris.  Some of us might argue the look never went away, at least not in the real world.  On that tip, no one does the washed-out denim shirt like Stockholm’s Our Legacy.  It’s certainly a staple for the label, and here they offer a basic, slim-fit, oxford-style shirt in a vintage wash with mother of pearl buttons.  We’re talking fit, comfort, and quality here, and it’s always on time.  Available at Tres Bien.

Rachel Comey Carmody Desert Boot

Rachel Comey
is at it again.  While her derby and oxford-style shoes are well revered (for good reason), she is constantly dropping new looks with those special, subtle details that flip the script.  We’re really digging her new Carmody desert boot.  The boot comes in a bark-colored nubuck leather with contrasting brown leather laces and a stacked leather heel.  The twist, of course, is the lace-through fold above the ankle.  It really sets these boots off.  Available at Opening Ceremony.

Sander Mulder Acrylic Lamps

Dutch designer Sander Mulder is well-known for his dramatic, meticulously crafted, and often subversive design aesthetic.  We previously showed you his “About Time” desk clock which literally rolls around to show you the time inside a continuous sentence replacing standard numerals.  Another of our favorite Mulder designs are the “Woofers”, which are headless dog speakers that sound as brash as they look.  But the design that has really caught our eye of late, is the acrylic (more specifically PMMA) lamp series.  The lamps are made up of many large, contoured, clear acrylic sheets, cut using highly-accurate CNC milling, and realized in three distinct models: “Therese” (chandelier), “Josephine” (floor lamp), and “Marie-Louise” (table lamp).  The design is such that the light from a special flourescent bulb filters and radiates out through the sheets, making them glow in a quite stunning fashion.  In addition, eight different color filters are available, for an even more dramatic look.  Available here.

S.N.S. Herning Stark Cardigan

You’ve no doubt been following S.N.S. Herning’s rise online over the past couple of months like we have been, but it’s only after getting to know its history that we’re deciding to follow suit. Soren Nielson Skyt founded S.N.S. Herning in Denmark in 1931.  Skyt made a living selling his knitwear with revolutionary “bubble” patterns that served as extra insulation for its wearers in the colder climes of Denmark and on the Baltic and North seas.  Today, Skyt’s son still runs the brand from its original home in the city of Herning, and they continue to employ the original techniques and knowledge to make their knitwear.  The Stark cardigan was first produced in 1971 and is still made to the same standards, even woven on the same looms.  It is made from 100% virgin wool and features a signature textured pattern, funnel neck, and metal buttons.  It’s the very definition of a classic.  Available here.
