Jaime Hayon Lounger

We’re pretty big fans of Spanish designer Jaime Hayon.  He imbues everything he creates with joy and flair, whether it be shoes for Camper or bright green rooster rocking chairs.  One of his latest creations is the Lounger, just unveiled at Salone del Mobile 2010 in Milan.  It is the finishing piece of his Showtime collection for BD Barcelona.  The wing chair, with a definite nod to Eames, has Hayon’s style through and through with his signature monochrome look and a perfect balance between style and comfort.  It will be available with an optional footrest and both leather and fabric options.

Nike Lunar Woven Chukka

Representing one of our favourite pieces of Nike technology, the Lunar sole makes another reincarnation in the form of the Nike Lunar Woven Chukka, which has now officially hit the floors as of yesterday. Combining two of Nike’s best technological advancements into one shoe. The base made of Lunar foam is as light as it is comfortable whereas the uppers are made using Nike’s woven technology using re-usable materials for superior breathability. A sneaker that’s obviously not for everybody, but then again, when’s the last time everybody agreed on one universal style? Stockists after the jump.

baileyworks camo market tote

For whatever reason a camouflage tote has proved to be rather elusive. Having gone into detail in the past about how a flash of camouflage can look decent paired with some solid colors, we’ll forgo the argument again. But imagine our surprise when we found this one made by one of our favorite technical bag makers, BaileyWorks out of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Hand made from sturdy cordura shell and yellow coverlight waterproof lining, something noticeably missing from most canvas totes. Lucky for you, this one is on sale here.

NEIL BARRETT High-top trainers

Generally outside our price range but always pretty to look at, Neil Barrett has always had a fine but limited choice of upscale trainers. Going with a painted leather upper reminiscent of YSL’s last season, these are a far and better cry from the Barrett’s mediocre collaboration with Puma. Though, those turned out better than Puma’s collaboration with Steve McQueen.  Available here.

comme des garcons shirt strap bag

Something sort of surprising to come from Comme des Garcons Shirt given the majority, if not all pieces normally involve some sort of patchwork. This bag is surprisingly understated in plain olive cotton canvas with black straps. Though the patchwork shirts always provide to be somewhat elusive and difficult to pull off, one can’t help but think a patchwork bag would have worked better than something uncharacteristically plain. Available here.

Chatham Marine G2 Deck Shoe

It’s really a buyer’s market out there if you’re looking for a good boater, but what can be difficult to track down is a nice two-tone model. Playing the role of Sperry Topsider by way of the UK, Chatham Marine are providing a wealth of choices for the Summer. Best of all, the uppers are a washable nubuck upper, meaning a trip or two through the washing machine may not be a terrible solution when it comes to months of sockless sporting. Available here.

Long One Size Black Tees

Outside of maybe haute couture, when it comes to clothing, in almost all cases, form and function trumps concept.  That is because, at its core, clothing is quite obviously utilitarian.  With that in mind, it’s hard not to cast an inquisitive eye at these “one size fits all” long, slim graphic t-shirts from emerging London brand Long.  A “one size fits all” concept for an item of clothing is novel because, of course, in reality, one size never fits all.  Some would argue that it is exclusionary.  We’re sure Long would argue that they are creating unique pieces one at a time.  Each smart graphic is hand printed in their studio in East London, and the shape is simple and open enough to be worn by a great many.  Without question, it is a bold move, and one that raises eyebrows, and for that, a designer can almost never be faulted.  Available for pre-order at Oki-Ni.

MONOCLE × OLIVER SPENCER SHIRT

The ever growing stock of Monocle’s Shop continues to impress well above just throwing a logo on a product and being done with it (for the most part). Their catalog is among the best curated, best suited and unmatched, each bearing Monocle’s mark of approval. Following up on their successful and extremely limited line of Winter shirts with Oliver Spencer, they’ve teamed together on an equally limited and equally wonderful line up of Summer shirts. Unlike a typical Oxford however, these in either blue gingham or fine blue stripe, come with two pockets on either side towards the bottom normally found on your favorite jacket. Available here.

THE DATE FARMERS

The Jonathan LeVine Gallery is currently hosting Smother Your Mother, an exhibit featuring LA-based artists Armando Lerma and Carlos Ramirez, aka The Date Farmers. You may remember the name from a N.A.S.A. music video we featured last year. Their work is a blends street art with re-appropriated space, and conjures up a wealth of pop cultural and Mexican-American imagery. The re-appropriated space usually comes in the form of discarded materials used as canvases; some are integral to the piece, like a serving tray that inspires a native shield for ‘Armand’ (above), while others simply provide an interesting texture to work on, like the microwave popcorn packaging used for ‘Ready to Eat’ (after the jump). It’s interesting to see all the artistic trends that resonate in their portfolio – the street art in their use of discarded and/or public space, the graffiti sensibility in their subject design, the culture jamming that inspires their more subversive works. Although they’ve been doing their thing since 1998 the timing of this gallery couldn’t be better; with the release of Exit Through The Gift Shop a renewed interest in street art will certainly benefit The Date Farmers. Smother Your Mother is on until May 8. More pictures after the jump.
