S.N.S. Herning Stark Cardigan

You’ve no doubt been following S.N.S. Herning‘s rise online over the past couple of months like we have been, but it’s only after getting to know its history that we’re deciding to follow suit. Soren Nielson Skyt founded S.N.S. Herning in Denmark in 1931.  Skyt made a living selling his knitwear with revolutionary “bubble” patterns that served as extra insulation for its wearers in the colder climes of Denmark and on the Baltic and North seas.  Today, Skyt’s son still runs the brand from its original home in the city of Herning, and they continue to employ the original techniques and knowledge to make their knitwear.  The Stark cardigan was first produced in 1971 and is still made to the same standards, even woven on the same looms.  It is made from 100% virgin wool and features a signature textured pattern, funnel neck, and metal buttons.  It’s the very definition of a classic.  Available here.

A Bathing Ape Weekend Bag

A Bathing Ape has done something interesting with this weekend bag, that is to say, a simplified design. We never got on board with anything BAPE camouflaged, but they often get things right when they go understated and not over extending their brand on everything from Tempur seat cushions to TePe toothbrushes to the newly launched fishing equipment collaboration with Daiwa. This small weekend bag caught our eye, without catching our eye. The color scheme works, as does the tan suede bottom and matching logo. Given it’s relatively small dimensions, we think it could make a pretty decent camera bag too. To be released soon.

Orvis Ventile Hunting Jacket

Hunting gear making its way into the city isn’t all that out of place than spotting mountaineering garb in the city, and while many are attempting to enter the market with ‘outdoor-inspired’ pieces, most of the time you’re best to stick with the classics. Perennial outdoor outfitter Orvis, aside from getting the cut and color accents down pact, have also put a lot of time and research into this Ventile Hunting jacket. It has been thoughtfully constructed and cut from the world’s best hunting fabric— Ventile, a cotton fabric that runs the gauntlet of briars and thorns without a snag, yet can efficiently transport moisture vapor away from your body to keep you cool. All stress points are bar-tacked, and all seams are double stitched with side seams “rear-facing” to reduce wear. Weatherproof. Waterproof. Thornproof. Lightweight. Breathable. Available here.

Lavenham ‘Quilted Tote’

We’ve gone on in length about the benefits of a tote and whether you’re a believer or not, we’re not sure anybody can ignore round 2 of Undefeated’s recently dropped Flight Helmet Bag included with the navy Poorman Weapon Converse. Lavenham’s signature diamond quilt pattern is perfect for those among us who can’t do the full quilted jacket thing. Incidentally, this is what Lavenham’s outerwear is known for and what they’ve been doing in the UK since 1969. As for the nitty gritty, it’s a deep marine diamond quilted tote bag with webbing handles, front patch pocket & corduroy trim and made from 100% Polyester shell with 100 gram quilted wadding. And yes, still produced in the British Isles. Available here.

Hackett Mayfair Rug

Premier curators of British-style, Hackett Mayfair make an interesting array of products outside of their usual traditional British garb including this rug, that also doubles as a throw, scarf and blanket. As with their scarf we featured earlier this year with their wonderful logo, this is woven in Scotland from extra fine Merino wool. Available here.

    Kurt Geiger Hi Sounds Lace-Ups

While mostly known for amazing collaborations with the likes of Grenson on some pastel brogues and Tricker’s on four pairs of brogue boots, Kurt Geiger has been out with some amazing stand alone pieces as of late. We’re particularly fond of these chukka deck shoes dubbed the Hi Sounds Lace-Ups. With the likes of Sperry Topsider and even more recently, 3sixteen x Quoddy‘s collaboration on a chukka deck shoe there aren’t any shortages of great selections for Spring. In fact, Sperry’s collaboration with Scott Sternberg from Band of Outsiders were so great we’re banking on a second go. The only real question when it comes to choice, is US-made or UK-made? Available here.

    Baracuta Armstrong Gingham G9 Harrington

Nothing says Spring like a crisp Baracuta Original G9 Harrington – Baracuta’s single biggest contribution to menswear dating back to 1937. Who among us can resist that icon Fraser Tartan lining and retro yet relevant logo? I’ve been partial to the Vintage Fit models which happen to fit me like my dad’s throwback Baracuta G9 I stumbled upon not too long ago. Even though they’ve expanded their list of materials to include Italian fabric, satin and cashmere, one can’t go wrong with the original Teflon exterior with Fraser Tartan interior. Featured up top is lightweight version of the harrington with an all over gingham print for those that want a little pattern to their classic. And for those looking to go more street than English country, you still might be able to find some of original Comme des Garcons x Baracuta and Stussy x Baracuta jackets on eBay. Available here.

    KZO Knit Jacket

KZO is a rising Los Angeles-based brand, which is the brainchild of ambitious designer Joel Knornschild.  Knornschild refers to his work as “cinematic fashion”, and each collection begins with a storyboard, soundtrack, and full visual treatment.  KZO is named after Knornschild’s Japanese-American grandfather, Kazuo Iwasaki, and while it is designed in the States, it is manufactured in Japan.  Here, his heady work has resulted in a fine ‘knit jacket’, which is a collarless jersey cardigan, woven from organic cotton, acrylic, and wool.  It has a looser fit for those who like to play with proportion and features seam detailing over the shoulders and metallic buttons.  It comes in a unique brick red, as well as light gray at Oki-Ni.

    Lodger Footwear Desert Boot

Lodger Footwear is going out on a limb and calling this Chukka a Desert boot even though Clarks officially claimed rightful ownership of the title – after all they have been making the Desert boot for just over 60 years now. From a similar pedigree to that of Clarks from the UK, the process of Lodger’s footwear is the kind of stuff footwear fiends dream of. Each piece for the uppers is hand cut by an experienced clicker, simple tools still heated by an open flame are used for the soles, and each pair is hand assembled. Normally known for Brogues and Oxford’s, being Lodger’s first go at a boot, they went as far as consulting a military historian on the origins of the style (the Desert was worn by British forces in the Western Desert Campaign of World War II).  The result is a beautifully clean two piece pattern; made a bit more shapely than many of the others out there, but a bit closer to what they thought the originals would have looked like. Available here.

Temple Bags | Parachute Tote & Envelope Wallet

True to their motto to “dream, risk, and create,” Temple Bags was born under the idea that everything boils down to what we’re able to do with the talents that we’re granted, and they have chosen to assert themselves to the world by challenging convention. While it’s no secret that the use of vintage military fabrics has become the standard by which a designer’s work is judged these days (it seems like), not all can justify cutting into its continuously dwindling supply. Some do it solely for its exclusivity, others out of remembrance and a genuine appreciation for the ones these materials may have once adorned. It’s people like Nigel Cabourn who have helped pave the way, but newcomers Temple know that these things present themselves in very limited quantities and can not be taken for granted. It’s with this in mind that they make every one of their opportunities count. The parachute tote and envelope wallet are both welcome departures from the everyday norm, and a far cry from the quintessential totes and duffles which have become far too commonplace. Available here.
