Sebago Patent Dockside Shoes

Patent leather deck shoes is something we’ve been wanting to get down with for a while now but for whatever reason haven’t passed over straight leather options. One major concern being the friction on the Achilles heal. The look of patent leather, especially on a boater, works well for us, especially spotting some of the Band of Outsiders x Sperry Top Sider collaborations a few a seasons back.  The color combination above though from Sebago is pretty tough to beat. Available here.

Wired Tour: Brooks Saddle Factory

Established as the premier handcrafted saddle manufacturer for almost 150 yrs, Brooks Saddles are revered for both their quality and their style. While simple, the process in making a Brooks Saddle is very time-consuming and meticulous. There’s a reason why the brand has been around and stayed successful for such a long time; the dedication devoted to the manufacturing process. Wired Gadget Lab recently was invited to tour the factory in West Midlands, UK and witness the work that goes into each and every saddle. Take a look at the entire process after the jump.

J. Lindeberg S/S 2010 Lookbook

While we’ve already shown you the AW 2010 collection, we’re taking a step back to revisit the Spring/Summer 2010 campaign from J. Lindeberg. In typical Lindeberg fashion, the collection bridges the gap between pristine tailoring and active sportswear. Combining lightweight materials with woven/wool structures, lining nylon garments with cotton and introducing waterproof/breathable/3-layer fabrics for dressed garments is a definite advancement in the use of technology for the Scandinavian brand. The suits, however, are the highlight of the collection. The look is energetic and elegant, but is definitely very structured. Shot by Swedish photographer Andreas Sjodin and featuring French model Jeremy Dufor, the lookbook does a great job showcasing this modern look, while keeping all the heritage J. Lindeberg brings to the table.

Neurosonics Live

One of the craziest music video/experiments we’ve ever seen has got to be Chris Cairns’ Neurosonics Audiomedical Labs Inc, featuring the Scratch Perverts. Cairns has just upped the bar, and not by a little, putting together an insane Live performance featuring holographic drumkit (Will Clark) and turntables (JFB). Like the original video, there’s not much more to say other than watch and be amazed.

Griffin has been killing it for almost 20 years in the business of mixing fashion and sportswear. The upcoming Spring/Summer 2010 collection is on point with cycling-focused pieces featuring Dry Wax Canvas Cottons, lightweight corduroys, and classic Italian camouflage linens. What’s piqued our interest even more than the upcoming collection is Griffin’s first ever bike collaboration. Teaming together with popular UK urban cycling brand Charge, the fixed gear in cyan blue and white features Charge’s signature minimalist Plug frame with Griffin’s distinctive design detailing, complete with new Griffin camouflage on the seat.

YMC Buckle Desert Boot

Perennial favorites You Must Create bring us a different take on the traditional desert boot, adding a twist of style & functionality to a very classic silhouette. Like a Desert/Chelsea boot hybrid, the YMC Buckle Desert boot is elegantly made from smooth suede in a Rust or Sand color, with a slim crepe sole and brushed leather lining, which eliminates the annoying color bleed on your socks. The addition of a rugged metal buckle is a clever touch in the design aesthetic, giving the boot a definite unique look and feel. Available here.

Kris Van Assche Black Combo Sneakers

Kris Van Assche can really split opinions with his extraordinary sneaker designs.  Of course, such is the dilemma for any creative who works outside of the proverbial box.  The Dior Homme creative director’s tendency to go over-the-top with velcro straps seems to be the real dividing line.  While his newest high top look is devoid of velcro, it does bring an exaggerated laces look.  It also features his somewhat signature tie detail at the back of the ankle.  For us, what really sets this design off is the tonal contrast created by the laces in combination with the goat suede tongue and side gussets versus the smooth leather of the upper and toe box.  Available here.

Banksy Pop Up Cinema

Imagine watching Raging Bull in a dilapidated ring, or Shawshank Redemption in an abandoned prison. That is the concept behind Banksy’s latest stunt, for the UK premiere of his film “Exit Through the Gift Shop“. Having received raved reviews at Sundance, the highly anticipated film will be ever more real in the reclusive artists’-own repurposed cinema. The Lambeth Palace is a makeshift 150-seat cinema/auditorium built under Waterloo train station. Kitted-out with everything to make the experience as real as possible; from popcorn stall, lounge bar, to street art adorning the walls, many surprises will surely await the audience underground. Playing until March 4th, you can get your tickets here.

Blog Roll | Kanye West

KanyeWest.com was launched and marks a distinctive new aesthetic in design for the Yeezy brand. Long gone are the Japanese-inspired illustrations, the new look is clean and simple. While typically this is a recommended approach, the site is marred with usability issues. For one, the splash page is completely and utterly useless. Its only function is to generate a click, and frustration from the user. Secondly, invisible menus? Come on, that’s just completely pointless and juvenile. Admittedly, it’s a designer’s wet dream to get rid of everything on the site, but there is a reason no one really does it – because it makes enjoying the site and its content impossible! And really now, the sounds of an airplane? I’m at a loss for words. Your thoughts?

Josh Chadwick Digital-Analog Watch

Winner of Design Philadelphia, a design competition put on by The Cadence Watch Company, Josh Chadwick’s Digital-Analog timepiece concept combines the design elements of an analog watch with the aesthetics of a digital display. Currently pursuing a masters degree in industrial design at Philadelphia’s University of the Arts, Chadwick effectively repurposes the characteristics of a classical timepiece in a nontraditional, elegant and modern package. The face of the watch has a modern digital display while still functioning like a traditional analog watch; the informational display in the center of the watch provides additional information (date, day of the week, AM/PM), while the outer rings represent the minute and hour hands. Similar to other nontraditional approaches to time-telling (like Nooka), the Digital Analog watch by Josh Chadwick is a sleek modern alternative for those looking for unique design aesthetic. Available for pre-order here.

Detailed | Feit Moc Hi

Made the move from the Arctic-like temperatures of a snow-laden Winnipeg to Sydney, Australia where the blistering heat can sometimes be more than what I bargained for, but the dynamics of the city perpetuate a relaxed yet vibrant lifestyle – the kind of environment that sees many local streetwear businesses thrive and prosper. In my spare time I’ve been trying to unearth all the cool spots to shop. Yesterday I came across Feit (pronounced fight). Situated on a corner that includes shops like Supply, I was quick to learn that these guys definitely don’t cut any. This little gem – the brainchild of former Royal Elastics employees Tull Price and Rodney Adler – are a relatively small operation, but the experience the two bring to the table make this one every bit worthwhile. With the knowledge they inherited from having worked for the likes of Nike and Adidas, Price and Adler demand nothing but the best out of their products. Take the Moc Hi’s, for example. They’re constructed out of Ox Blood leather which gives the boot a nice, smooth sheen and a dotted vibram sole for max comfort, traction and durability. While this silhouette is the first in their line to take on a more formal look, let’s hope it’s not their last because it stacks up against the best of them. Available here.
