We’ll stop short of calling it a comeback, but we can’t remember spotting Woolrich in more shops and reading about them in more magazines/blogs in the last little while than we ever have. Woolrich’s signature wool red and black hunting plaids in their vintage form are still in demand on eBay, much like the way vintage tin cloth Filson bags are. Alas, this post is not about its widely known and recognized outdoors pieces but rather, a classic piece of Americana in the form of a leather postman messenger/briefcase. While we’re not certain anything remotely looking like this was used in the 17th Century when the USPS was founded, something about it just screams Woolrich’s heritage through the Civil War (they provided blankets to the Union soldiers), the Great Depression and two world wars. Today’s history lesson adjourned. Available here.
