Fresh on the scene is the new video from Justice for the remix of Let Love Rule by Lenny Kravitz. In the video you get to see what happens after as the end movie credits become part of the story and affect the life of the main protagonist in his daily life. The video was directed by Keith Schofield who also made the now classic Diesel XXX video (warning boys and girls, this one is NSFW).

ShoFolk Armstrong Boot

Picture 1Picture 2

Having long been fans of the Shofolk Andre boot, winter it seems, can never come soon enough for the right occasion to wear them. Not wanting to leave their devout without decent footwear, Shofolk also happens to have amazing options for Fall, one of which being the Armstrong, pictured above in Bitter Chocolate. Based on a desert boot along with Shofolk’s distinctive toe that’s a little fatter and rounder than what you might be accustomed to, the fact that these are handmade in Portugal from leather and suede, much like their winter counterparts, have us sold. Love the midcut profile, the dark chocolate brown synonymous with Fall and of course, the contrasting white rubber sole but be forewarned, these provide limited grip on slippery surfaces. Pair it with whatever Penfield’s jacket fits your fancy. Available here.

Thom Yorke Band | Orpheum Theatre

TYorke Marquee

There have been few times in the long history of popular music when a band with no name has generated as much anticipation and excitement as Thom Yorke‘s new supergroup has in the last week.  The band performed two very exclusive shows at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday and Monday night.  The shows were announced at midnight a week ago Monday, went on sale at 10 a.m. that morning, and were sold out in about 15 minutes.  Such is the draw of Thom Yorke and Radiohead.

The singer said his new band, comprised of Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, drummer Joey Waronker, percussionist Mauro Refosco, and Radiohead producer extraordinaire Nigel Godrich, had only rehearsed for three weeks, but you would never know it by the way they transformed Yorke’s twitchy 2006 solo album, The Eraser, into a syncopated, rhythm-filled dance party.  The band played the album front to back, with Flea dropping slap bass bombs all over tracks like “Harrowdown Hill” and “Cymbal Rush”, while Refosco’s Brazilian percussion bits like a berimbau transformed the groove on “The Clock” into some kind of acoustic dubstep mashup.  After a quick break, Yorke returned to play some new tracks solo on the piano, before the entire band followed to play his new 12″ “FeelingPulledApartbyHorses”, as well as the b-side “The Hollow Earth” and Radiohead b-side “Paperbag Writer”.

I walked out of the packed show sandwiched between Josh Groban and Leonardo DiCaprio of all people.  A bizarre ending to a very surreal night.

More pics and video after the jump…

Crownfarmer T-Shirts

Crownfarmer_1

Two years ago, Los Angeles-based brand Crownfarmer was stocked in lofty boutiques like Colette, but was subsequently forced to go on a self-imposed hiatus to restructure internally.  In the meantime, the brand’s founder Bob Kronbauer created the online magazine Club Mumble, featuring contributions from a variety of people tied to both street and contemporary art, as well as skateboarding.  Now, Kronbauer has reawakened the Crownfarmer brand, tapping artists from Club Mumble to create unique t-shirt designs.  The first is by Todd Bratrud, and carries a heavy resemblance to the Dr. Seuss illustrations that the designer admits are a strong influence.  The intent of the revived brand is to reveal a new design weekly at the Crownfarmer website, where they are also available for sale, and to eventually find their way back to the boutiques they once graced.

Spiral Wine Cellar

Created by Georges Harnois, who noticed that most modern homes didn’t have wine cellars or a safe place to store bottles for safekeeping this design is inspired by historic French underground staircases. The custom storage cellar is a watertight, pre-cast cylindrical system that’s sunk into the ground of your home, and  can be located anywhere from your kitchen and living room to your workshop. It keeps up to 1,900 bottles of wine (with a few Cristal bottles in between) and like a standard cellar, keeps the bottles fresh with the surrounding earth and its unique air-flow system. Check out some info here on getting your own. Watch the video of the Spiral Cellar in action and making of, here.

GARBSTORE MOUNTAIN PROVIDENCE PARKA

GARBSTORE MOUNTAIN PROVIDENCE PARKA

Even though this has been out for a little awhile, a recent conversation between Joe and Justin re-sparked interest in one of our Garbstore favorites of the season. While Justin was not a fan of the exposed drawstring waist, he conceded that the available color options were incredible. However, for the price, he believed the money would be better spent on a full waterproof, Gore-Tex option. Joe on the other hand, a long M-65 devotee, fell in love with this mountain parka having a permanent hood and high hand pockets for unpredictable weather. Call it a draw. Available here.

Mini Mayfair & Camden

Its no secret we are fans of the current generation MINI, although its a car built by the fine folks at BMW we think the German automaker did a fine job in keeping its British roots. That said, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the brand and the folks at Mini have been celebrating all year by releasing special limited edition packages. While releasing a special edition is nothing new when it comes to cars, what we like about LE Mini Camden and Mayfair is the inspiration behind the duo with each of the model’s inspired by the distinct neighborhood of London it’s named after.

The Camden package takes its cue from the contemporary and creative London district with its exclusive White Silver colorway. A really unique touch to the model is the Mission Control Motoring Communication System. MCMCS is a human alternative to the usual Pavlovian chimes and dings that the other models have. The system has a trio of friendly voices offer advice, encouragement and add of bit of flavor to the drive by giving you a pleasant reminder to buckle-up or a complementary “Nice quick acceleration there!”

Both models will have some similarities like exclusive side scuttles with Camden and Mayfair logos with white side light indicators as well as clear markings that separate them from the rest, like Mini 50 logos on the door stills and upholstery as well as birthday medals on the radiator grill.

D*FACE MURAL: SHUTTERED STOREFRONTS

Very fresh things going on at the Jonathan Levine Gallery in NYC. They’re currently hosting Ludovico Aversion Therapy, the first solo exhibition by London-based culturejammer D*Face. The street artist and sculptor is making a name for himself combining graffiti culture and graphic design with an Adbusters sensibility. His work has been featured in Australia, Asia and all over Europe, including these incredible concrete can sculptures around London. Much of his larger-scale work re-appropriates public space; this solo show, which runs until October 10th, includes this off-site mural mounted on three shuttered storefronts in the Lower East Side, a collaboration with community project group No Longer Empty.
