London-based label You Must Create (YMC) takes a modernist approach to fashion-forward clothing, thinking about function rather than following whatever trend is currently making waves. This approach is, ironically enough, just what is making waves for the brand. Created in 1995 by Fraser Moss and Jimmy Collins, YMC’s current collection is a blend of wearable, modern clothing with an accent on utilitarian function. Take the YMC Waxed jacket for the Fall or Winter, inspired by a Fireman’s jacket, the heavyweight waxed 100% cotton-canvas outer is reinforced throughout, with large functional front pockets and heavy-duty D-Ring clasps. All the while, the sleek silhouette takes a seemingly bulky concept and gives it modern looking form.
