Wallpaper magazine and London-based, Italian designer Martino Gamper recently collaborated to create a chair arch to mark the London Design Festival. Adorning a garden outside the Victoria and Albert Museum, the twin arches were constructed entirely of 160 Ercol original stackable wood chairs. Engineering firm Atelier One pitched-in with construction expertise on the fully self-supported design. One arch is painted in a rainbow pattern while the other provides the perfect contrast with an all-natural look. The arches were inspired by a Victorian tradition in which towns would create an arch made of locally-manufactured products to celebrate the visit of royalty or other special occasions.
