This past Tuesday, September 1st, 2009 marked the 60th anniversary of Onitsuka Tiger and in celebration, LH in association with Reed Space launched Made of Japan – the official recap of Onitsuka Tiger’s original sports heritage, vision and evolution. Guests were able to flip through the limited edition magazine, have an unlimited supply of drinks, listen to the musical stylings of DJ Chip, meet some key people and enter to win 1 of the 6 limited boxed editions of Made of Japan of which, there are only 250 available worldwide. From Onitsuka Tiger to our sponsors, Asahi and Function, to Jeff, Anna, Do and everybody at Reed, Amy, Christina and everybody who came out, tweeted, blogged, whatever, thank you for supporting.

The night represented a dual milestone of sorts. On top of it being OT’s 60th anniversary, it was also our first go at helping to launch a product. An event like this is so far removed and beyond the LH blog, we can’t even begin to tell you how challenging yet rewarding the entire process was. From first learning about jeffstaple way back, to being able to organize and throw an event for a brand like OT at Reed Space, was surreal and huge to say the least. It was a milestone.
Launching Made of Japan has also been a completely new way for us to think about collaborations in general. There was a time when we were starting out and would have been happy to collaborate with anybody and just throw our logo on another brand’s t-shirt or New Era and be done with it. Even back then, those opportunities didn’t feel right for us. We waited for the right opportunity and feel honored (and very lucky) to have worked with the likes of OT and Reed Space for our first. And while this collaboration didn’t result in something tangible like merchandise with our name on it, it was a milestone. Thank you for making it one to remember.
