Bose, always at the forefront of design and tech and makers of our favorite in-ear headphones of all time, are out with a new SoundDock. For a while there it felt like they had been riding their Wave radio/CD player “wave” but with the recent release of the very impressive SoundLink Wireless Speakers and now its new SoundDock 10 system for iPod, Bose is proving (again) it’s rightful place in the market. Bose claims that its the best-sounding, most powerful system our there for the iPod. All you need to do is place your iPod or iPhone into the dock, plug and play and you can skip through tracks with the convenient remote. An auxiliary input accepts other audio sources, and there’s even an output for sending iPod video to your TV while the sound plays through the system.

SoundDock 10 features deeper low notes because of a newly designed driver enhanced by Bose’s waveguide speaker tech that’s renowned for its powerful performance that rivals larger, more expensive stereo systems. Other features include optional Bluetooth dock for playing your stereo Bluetooth music phone, auxiliary input for connection your MP3 player and its compatible with all iPhone models and most iPods. The SoundDeck 10 is available here.

MAKR CARRY GOODS | FALL '09

If this is your first look at Makr Carry Goods you’re in for a real treat. All products are hand-crafted in a local Florida factories by a small batch of artisans that stain the leather, laser etch each piece, buff and wax the finish pieces and apply all the buttons, snaps and straps. After breaking out in the blogosphere around this time last year, Makr has since added totes, a strap tube duffle and of course, more fine wallets to their line up. Out of all the new releases, we’re most excited about the new Makr Snap tote made from cotton duck with deer tanned cowhide accent strips and two handle options made from heavy cotton webbing with cotton duck binding. Gunmetal snaps, asmall snap hook for keys or wallet attachment, and the signature laser etched suede tag, round out the rest of the details. If you want to know more about the man behind the brand, ACL did an interview with the young, entrepreneurial Jason Gregory back in December that’s still worth a read.

Billykirk No. 207 Flight Bags

Billykirk No 207 Flight Bags

Really into Billykirk’s take on the laptop bag – the No. 207 padded leather Flight Bag. Having long been fans of the handmade leather goods from Chris and Kirk Bray, the Flight Bag comes with handles that can be lengthened for carrying on your shoulders along with two fine Swiss Riri zippers. We’ve always been into the the Kirk Brother’s simple, philosophy – Billykirk accessories doesn’t aim to be the focus of attention (as noted by the lack of details and heavy branding), but instead blend into the wearer’s everyday clothing choice. This is evident right down to their phenomenal collaborations with Sebago and J.Crew, two other like-minded brands that keep designs minimal. The leather used for these bags are genuine Napa, hand treated with natural oils and beeswax so that over time the patina that the leather achieves is beautiful. The bag is available in limited quantities directly from Billykirk.

OVER THE STRIPES Tartan Check Jacket

After falling hard for their Duffle Coat a little while back, Japanese brand Over the Stripes has released yet winner for this season with some brighter colors. They’ve essentially given another use to the interior tartan check lining on the Duffle Coat and used it for the exterior along with some purple nylon detailing the previously-seen bright yellow zippers. Deviating slightly from Tamotsu Omine’s usually low profile, this coat is on par with the Over the Stripes graphic t-shirt line up. Maybe not great for everyday wear, but a good option for days you want to be noticed. Available here.

Rachel-Comey-Burnside-boots-3

With all the noise about Rachel Comey’s Spring 2010 woman’s line, people often forget that the label started only with menswear in 2001. We’ve never forgotten even though the focus has since reversed to more womenswear, and especially not after the preview to the amazing collection of men’s shoes for Spring 2010 featuring chukkas, oxfords, and two-toned gems.

Rachel Comey‘s heavy duty Burnside leather boots fit the bill for Fall and Winter with unique removable tassels for that vintage feel along with a clean silhouette for that modern chicness. The boots are layered and the rubber sole ought to help protect from the coming cold along with brass lace loops and an ankle strap keep them snug on your feet. Available here.

GRO Design × Samsung Bi-Axis Fridge

The Bi-axis fridge is the product of Eindhoven based GRO design and Samsung. GRO’s inspiration came from the the increasingly blurred division between cooking and living areas in modern homes. With its retro face, this modern concept fridge can be transformed from the traditional vertical position to a horizontal ‘sideboard’, making it look like another piece of furniture rather than a large appliance. The free-standing fridge does away with the typical coils and features a smooth flat surface while all the interior surfaces have grooves that allow the shelves to be re-oriented according to the fridges position.

White Mountaineering Performance Shell

You’ve no doubt already come across the White Mountaineering Shell Luggage coat throughout your online travels recently with a raw military-inspiration that goes above an M-65 along with fierce GORE-TEX waterproofing. Along with its other amazing pieces from the new season, this Performance Shell from White Mountaineering (we think) goes one up on the Shell Luggage coat with some accent striping that make the pockets and frame pop, along with wool/tweed and ‘fish tail’ rear opening.  From a great line of luggage bags made in collaboration with Head Porter, to this jacket, they are rocking the batting average. Sperry Authentic Original Chukka

While the chukka from Sperry Authentic Original isn’t a new model, we’re always happy to see these on online shelves as the season for boaters comes to an end and the need for socked footwear approaches. Not willing to part ways with our summer favorites so quickly, we can’t wait to get our hands on these genuine, handswen tru-moc Sperry 4 eyelet chukka boots in rough waxed dark brown suede and rough waxed olive/ moss green suede. True to their classic nautical style, these lower-than-usual chukkas feature a rubber outsole with Razor-Cut Wave-Siping for the ultimate traction for late Fall days when it’s raining and not snowing yet, plus, the uppers are stain and water resistant. MASTERMIND JAPAN Skull Cardigan

MASTERMIND JAPAN Skull Cardigan

This cardigan fits right into Mastermind Japan’s ‘Serenade’ collection for Fall/Winter 2009 with designer, Masaaki Honma’s continuing punk-inspired motif. The heavy beige, brown and white chunky knit cardigan reminds us of Kurt Cobain when he was live and unplugged in NY for MTV and while skulls and crossbones aren’t normally our bag, it’s sort of a necessary evil when it comes to one of our favorite Japanese brands. Normally always floating around the blogosphere in some sort of collaboration whether it be with SOPH, RonHerman, Club Designer sunglasses or Bamford Watch Department, it’s great to see nice pieces that work on their own. While the preview of the entire collection dropped last month, we’re happy to report that this cardigan is now available here.

nonnative Student Jacket

nonnative student jacket

Amongst the M-65′s and plaids this Fall, the varsity jacket-look is going to be big and while everybody including the GAP has been jumping on board (and charging a premium for them by the way), it’s been great to see some upscale brands still killing it on this American classic. We found a really neat one in A.P.C.’s Spring/Summer ’09 collection but if you wanted to go one up, these two from Japanese outdoor-influenced, nonnative, are pretty sweet for the on-campus but off-campus look. The brown Wool Shadow Check jacket on the left and charcoal Student jacket on the right both feature steer hide sleeves and in comparison with other similar Japanese brands, these remain nicely understated. Available here.

A Single Man by Tom Ford

Anyone who has even a passing interest in menswear, or just fashion in general, certainly knows the name TOM FORD. Ford has often spoken of his aspiration to be a film director and now he has made his bow, both directing and writing the screenplay for A Single Man, an adaptation of the 1964 novel of the same name by Chistopher Isherwood. The film debuted at the Venice Film Festival over the weekend and was nominated for the Golden Lion (best picture). Ford has assembled a talented ensemble cast, headlined by Julianne Moore and Colin Firth, who won the Best Actor prize at the festival for his role. Considering the man at the helm, it should be no surprise that the film is highly stylized. It appears adorned with both sharp fashion and design, with Ford getting a helping hand from the production designers behind the hit television show Mad Men.

The film will also screen at the Toronto and London film festivals. Ford is planning a 2009 U.S. release, but nothing has been confirmed at this time.
