You always have to wonder what’s behind information being leaked out on the Internets, especially when it’s by a brand that is assured to get people talking. Regardless of whether or not this is a publicity stunt, a PDF brochure and microsite for Leica’s all new M9 camera had originally been made available, then seemingly pulled from existence (if you’re a German hacker, you can maybe find a way in here).
The object of all that ruckus is the Leica M9, an update on the Leica M8 rangefinder, complete with a monster full-frame sensor allowing proper use of Leica’s full lineup of world class lenses. Keeping the fabulous retro design we’ve come to love from Leica, and coming in at a whopping 18 Megapixels, the M9 is an impressive alternative to both DSLR cameras and Canon’s G11.
