Anyone who has even a passing interest in menswear, or just fashion in general, certainly knows the name TOM FORD. Ford has often spoken of his aspiration to be a film director and now he has made his bow, both directing and writing the screenplay for A Single Man, an adaptation of the 1964 novel of the same name by Chistopher Isherwood. The film debuted at the Venice Film Festival over the weekend and was nominated for the Golden Lion (best picture). Ford has assembled a talented ensemble cast, headlined by Julianne Moore and Colin Firth, who won the Best Actor prize at the festival for his role. Considering the man at the helm, it should be no surprise that the film is highly stylized. It appears adorned with both sharp fashion and design, with Ford getting a helping hand from the production designers behind the hit television show Mad Men.
The film will also screen at the Toronto and London film festivals. Ford is planning a 2009 U.S. release, but nothing has been confirmed at this time.
