FILSON GLOVES

Today is running cold and we’re thinking about gloves. Not just any gloves, we want gloves built for the outdoors that look great and will last. Perusing our usual stores suspects had us running on empty, that is until we came across a few gloves from Filson. Any glove that is described by the manufacturer as “Ideal for shooting or driving” (Goat Skin Gloves pictured bottom) is worth a look, wouldn’t you say? Top left, are the perfectly insulated Merino Wool Lined Goatskin Gloves, that’s Merino Wool Gloves stitched together with Goatskin gloves. Those should be good from Fall through to Winter. Top right, our favorites, are the Field Shooting Gloves because they look classy even though they have superior grip and are ideal in both wet and dry conditions with breathable Aquatec fabric on the fingers, thumb, and palm with Tri-layer Climatec thermal stretch fabric on back. Lastly, the Goat Skin Gloves are a worthy, less bulky full grained leather option for Fall, something we’ve been having a hard time finding as of late. Available here.

Tretorn Cykel Leather Boots in Black Majolica BlueTretorn Cykel Leather Boots in Black Majolica Blue

Really impressed with these very affordable Fall options from Tretorn. Admittedly, every Tretorn sneaker we’ve ever put on has been shockingly heavier than usual but we always attribute that to heavy-duty quality materials and Swedish design. These Cykel leather boots in black and majolica blue are perfect for Fall with hiking boot-like eyelets, lumberjack-like red laces, and all-weather-tire-like treaded sole that ought to keep your grip firm on late October rainy days. For the more adventurous, stick to Tretorn’s time-tested and proven rubber collection. Whether you decide to tuck your pants into your boots or not is still a game time decision. Available here.

We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again, what could be finer than a Japanese brand’s take on classic American workwear? OVER THE STRIPES | Felix the Cat

OVER THE STRIPES | Felix the Cat

Even though we realize this Over The Stripes piece is on some Supreme x Mickey Mouse Fall/Winter 2010 ‘ish, we love this piece for the same reasons we love the Disney-inspired pieces. Throwback cartoons is what’s up. While Over the Stripes did look like it was moving slightly away from their graphic tees that helped push Tamotsu Omine’s brand with an array of quality coats and jackets for this season, it’s nice to see they’re continuing to stick to their roots. Bite or not, Felix the Cat was always the underdog up against Mickey Mouse in the 1920′s and with this release, seems like not much has changed since then. The question is, will Mickey beat Felix again in the popularity contest? Available here.

UPDATE: Just found this on the Over the Stripes site which shows a Mikey Mouse collab from October 2008 which beats the Supreme collab by about a year. Let the debate begin.

ICON CJ3B “THE DOG”

ICON CJ3B "THE DOG"

We’ve always had a soft spot for short 4×4′s like the G-Wagons, Defenders and Land Cruisers from back in the day which is why we’re always looking forward to the newest drops from L.A.-based ICON and their custom FJ’s. Inspired by the post WWII, Willys CJ3B, ‘The Dog’ will maintain ICON’s principles of simplicity, value and utility while staying true to the original. We love that ICON doesn’t just switch up some body paneling and go on some rebranding campaign, they go full on. ‘The Dog’ features an ICON-designed state of the art chassis, GM Ecotec fuel injected four cylinder motor (260HP/26MPG), Jeep Rubicon axles with four wheel disc brakes and locking differentials, and 31″ tires with optional 33″ tires for more aggressive uses. The first models are expected to ship out in Spring/Summer 2010.

Wallpaper* Chair Arch

Wallpaper magazine and London-based, Italian designer Martino Gamper recently collaborated to create a chair arch to mark the London Design Festival. Adorning a garden outside the Victoria and Albert Museum, the twin arches were constructed entirely of 160 Ercol original stackable wood chairs. Engineering firm Atelier One pitched-in with construction expertise on the fully self-supported design. One arch is painted in a rainbow pattern while the other provides the perfect contrast with an all-natural look. The arches were inspired by a Victorian tradition in which towns would create an arch made of locally-manufactured products to celebrate the visit of royalty or other special occasions.

Lanvin Wool Hat

lanvin_woolhat_1

You know how much we love Lanvin sneakers. Designer Lucas Ossendrijver has been killing on that front for several years now. He maybe hasn’t always gotten his proper due when it comes to his ready-to-wear clothing and accessories. Here, the venerable French brand drops a wool felt hat that is perfect for this fall and winter. A great hat can lend an instant air of bold sophistication, and this is certainly a perfect example of that. The grey houndstooth exterior is impeccably simple yet unique, and it’s nearly matched by a choice interior pattern. It’s touches like that which make this hat, and equally this brand, one of the best around. Available here.

ORA Watch Concept

Ora watch-8

We aren’t big fans of talking about concepts but we were impressed with Greek product designer Alexandros Stasinopoulos’ previous concept from last year, the BRIEFC(eramic)ACE. This year is no exception with the ORA concept watch, a study on the field of haute horlogerie. It focuses on the display of time by replacing the expected dial arrangement found in the vast majority of the mechanical watches with a set of three interwoven tapes – one to indicate the hour(s), one to indicate the minute(s), and one to indicate the day.

Objectified DVD Release

special_editions5961

The second part of Gary Hustwit‘s “Design Trilogy” is set to release on DVD October 13th, the first being critically acclaimed Helvetica and the third remaining unknown at this point. Objectified is about all the things we interact with, be them overlooked and insignificant, or things we buy purely for their good looks. It’s about the designers who re-examine, re-evaluate and re-invent our manufactured environment on a daily basis. It’s about personal expression, identity, consumerism, and sustainability. Some of our personal favorites in the film include: Jonathan Ive/Apple, Mark Newson, Naoto Fukasawa/Muji/Plus Minus Zero, Hella Jongerius/Droog.

Pick up your copy of the movie here.

Incase you haven’t seen it yet, or missed the trailer, we included it after the jump and it’s well worth watching.

Nom de Guerre Rubberized Jacket

NDG_RubberJacket

Nom de Guerre’s fall/winter collection, “Third Generation”, draws inspiration from the Eastern Block and Sherpa expeditions. Nowhere is this more apparent than in their N2 Rubberized jacket, which is available in both black and grey. Somewhere between a parka and a bomber, it’s cut short with an elastic waist and cuffs, a drawstring split hood, and a zip close with button placket. The rubberized texture on the outside is made to weather and crack, lending it a quick vintage look. This jacket goes hard.

Available here and here.

Bloodbath – Draw First Blood

BloodBath - Fall #1

Bloodbath is  just starting to really make waves, a name that conjures up aggressive ideas, but their style is defined by simple and clean streetwear designs, a play on opposites. New for fall, their line includes some embroidered v-neck styles, graphics tees and hats which keep very much in line with their past offerings. Based in LA and collaborating in the past with such names as Brooklyn Projects and Terry Kennedy; owner Eric Zi says that a cut & sew line is next, and is set to debut in 2010, named their “Black Label”. We appreciate the fact that even though they’re in a field among many brands, they’re setting themselves apart in subtle ways and it should be interesting to see how this translates to their next releases.

Robert Geller Leather-Welt Pocket Jean

RobertGellerJean
It’s no coincidence Robert Geller was tapped by Levi’s for a collaboration. He has that old-school slim jean silhouette down pat. These slim, low rise, straight leg black jeans seem perfectly simple upon first glance, but it’s the unique details that set them apart. For instance, they have vertical front pockets, which is quite a departure for denim, but immediately sets them a class above. This one simple feature means they could easily be mistaken for trousers, which, in turn, means they can be easily dressed up or down. As the name suggests they feature double back pockets with leather welts. Another classy touch is the vintage-style conical rivets. Everything about this jean screams quality. Available here.
