While the fruits of labour showcased above can be found tucked into the September issue of V Magazine’s (yes, the one with the likes of Kate Moss, Lady Gaga, and a number of other pop culture icons grazing different covers) as a special supplement, we’re finding ourselves more mesmerized by the behind the scenes peek at the photoshoot than the finished product. Granted, the still photographs are great: the weird ugly-beauty and dark qualities synonymous with photographer Paul Rowland’s work is once again captured to perfection here. But in watching the whole process come together the stills come to life, and are the all the more creepy because of it. Seeing the active play on all that is gross and gruesome (insects, slabs of serrated flesh and of course, blood) mixed with the demure quality of the models – only partially hidden behind layers of makeup and the fiercest eyes they can muster up – along with the strategic placement of some delicate flowers, casts quite the shadow on the clothes being modeled in the shoot offering a playful but macabre take on Fall 2009.
Below are just some of the head shots that resulted from the shoot – the theme was based around paganism and the supplement is to promote some of the brightest new talent coming out of two of New York’s most prominent modeling agencies – Supreme Management and Women.
