RENOVO HARDWOOD BICYCLES

RENOVO HARDWOOD BICYCLES(Renovo R4 Pursuit road bike, black walnut and Port Orford cedar)

Ken and Stuart Wheeler of Renovo Bicycles, are bringing bikes back to their origins with all-wood frames. We’ve never had the pleasure, but according to them, they’re stealth quiet, light and stiff – made from hollow wood and laminated bamboo. Like most, we were skeptical at first of the frames’ sturdiness, but apparently the fatigue life of wood rivals carbon and is substantially longer than aluminum or steel.  Aside from the technical aspects and shear aesthetics, Renovo bikes are almost entirely handmade, right down to the sorting and matching of the wood, followed by the cutting, sanding, bonding, machining, shaping; whereas most hand-built bike companies hand-assemble parts sourced from foreign factories. Best of all, future Renovo owners are able to chose their desired wood. See their line-up after the jump.
