Be Positive | Fall/Winter 2009

Young, casual footwear brand BePosi+ive hailing from Italy has some amazing options for Fall/Winter including hiking boots, ankle boots and low top loafer. With only two years under their belt, they’ve already invaded both Europe and Japan and rightfully so. Our favorite is the ankle boot above, even though the brand is mostly known for doing some mean interpretations of the Chukka, including one in cowhide, and previously, one in mesh. Other models include a Hiker boot, college leather loafers, and Brogue – a half sneaker, half wing-tip combo with a Nike Air-like pocket. The line is currently being distributed through Slam Jam and online at MideTrive.

Rolls Royce Ghost

RR_200EX_e1_1024x768

For a company that previously wasn’t known for launching new models in regular intervals, the last couple of years have seen the luxury brand awaken from its usual slow pace with new models that have brought the brand into the 21st century. For its latest model, Rolls Royce is channeling the spirit of the classic Silver Ghost, a model that is widely considered to be the luxury marque’s first serious contender in the luxury car market.

The all-new Ghost model is based on the previously announce experimental 200EX and will be joining the brand’s Phantom lineup. Previously announced last November, the car’s performance specs have just been released. The Ghost is set to sport a brand new 563hp turbocharged 6.6L V12 engine with 575 lb-ft of torque from as low as 1,500 rpm that is unique to RR. Obviously a V12 doesn’t scream low fuel consumption but I hardly think its a factor if you plan on picking one up. All those pony’s allow for a ridiculous 4.8 seconds to reach 60 mph and a top speed governed at 155mph. It gets a bit technical with the suspension features…suffice to say the car will have top line suspension and handling guaranteeing a smooth ride. Open the coach doors and you’re welcomed with luxurious wood paneling and hand stitched leather sofa seats and a huge two-panel sunroof.

Italia Independent Checkered Coat

Picture 1

For full disclosure’s sake, we were on the fence about this find. Some of us thought it looked like a Head of State’s wife jacket, others fought for it the same way they fought for Engineered Garments colorful patchwork madras Bedford. What it came down to was brand Italia Independent‘s forsight to give a print to the normally monotone pea coat. Going the way of Made in Italy 2.0, Italian Independent, has been preaching independence, accessible luxury and trying to move beyond style, quality and craftsmanship. To move beyond,  they’ve made innovation a part of fashion and have already used modern materials such as kevlar, DuPont’s Cordura, Goretex or carbon together with “noble” fabrics like Loro Piana’s cashmere. The coat above is inspired by the U.S. Navy standard issue coat with I-I’s uniquely checkered design , we’re just hoping they’ve kept the carbon fibre buttons and fully waterproof treatment from last year. Available here.

Filson Tin Cloth LuggageNormally known for their rugged twill pieces complete with leather and brass finishings, Filson‘s Tin Cloth Luggage Collection is both a welcome departure and worthy addition. While the collection features pieces fit for hauling shooting and field gear, they easily double as everyday bags. Made from sturdy, fast-drying Nylon, they are half the weight and roughly half the cost of their oil finish 2 ply by 3 ply, rugged cotton twill counterparts (tote aside), while keeping the same high quality U.S. manufacturing process. If this collection is a little too casual for you, check out their new Passage Luggage Collection which lends itself to being a little bit more on the formal side.

Ayame Mix Yarn Socks

Something small and easily overlooked, socks can actually make or break any look. We remember Andre 3000 telling us to get dressed from the bottom up, starting with shoes and socks – words to dress by. Putting some thought into matching your socks with your shirts and having a few good pairs of high quality socks for a variety of looks, can say a lot about a person. Ayame socks are a great example of high quality socks that cannot go unnoticed. Straight out of Japan and the brain child of Aya Agoka, the Ayame sock company has successfully carved itself a niche in leg fashion with its high concept socks. The brand’s attention to detail as well production quality and using refined materials like cotton, acrylic and nylon ensures that Aya Agaoka’s line of socks stand out from the rest. We particularly like the unique detailing of the ‘magic carpet’ and ‘snowstorms’ patterns.  Available here.

The Inoue Brothers

The Inoue Brothers

We first came across The Inoue Brothers earlier this year when they seemingly came out of nowhere with a collaboration with Comme des Garcons as part of a limited edition Knitwear Collection. Founded in 2004 by Japanese brothers Satoru and Kiyoshi Inoue – born and raised in Copenhagen, Denmark, they combined Japanese sensibility and Scandinavian simplicity to create something they called  ‘SCANDINASIAN design’. Their Autumn/Winter Collection 2009/2010 has already received a positive response, with varieties of knit-wear in fresh Andes colors and use of original fibres from South America (The Pima Cotton, Andes Highland Wool, Alpaca and Baby-Alpaca) made with the help of their network of traditional Bolivian knitters – artisan mothers working from home, unable to leave for a city job due to family commitments. Professionally, hand-knitted garments with motherly love. While the collection is certainly not new news, from August 4th to the 29th, Storm Fashion in Copenhagen will open it’s doors for an exclusive POP-UP Store by The Inoue Brothers.

freshwaterhouse-11

We just found this home built by architects Tony Chenchow and Stephanie Little from Sydney, Australia over at +Mood. Created by the duo from Chenchow Little Architects, the FreshWater House overlooks Sydney’s northern beaches and features special one of a kind dark folding screens that completely surround the house on different levels. Closed, the screens protect the occupants from climate but when opened the screens let in light and open the house to the elements allowing for  spectacular views of the water. Tony and Stephanie have worked on a wide variety of projects including residential, retail and commercial but they have recently focused more on contemporary residential work with amazing results. See more snapshots of this house after the jump.

FRANKS SWIMWEAR APPAREL

Frank's Shorts

Like most, we’ve never been one’s to really give a thought into merging fashionable with swimwear. Maybe we’re all happy with the boardshorts we all bought earlier this decade or simply, just haven’t given it a second thought. One brand that’s really killing it right now is Franks, with trunks that hit in the right spot, low thigh above the knee, and simple patterns with soft colors. Born from the beach culture of Australia, they’re made from soft, water-resistant, quick drying fibers and those patterns, hand-drawn designs thank you very much. The solid colored SSB shorts look terrific paired with an off-colored patterned tee and might even work with a desert boot (outside of a photoshoot) as much as they would tennis or boaters. Available at Opening Ceremony and the Franks store.
