For full disclosure’s sake, we were on the fence about this find. Some of us thought it looked like a Head of State’s wife jacket, others fought for it the same way they fought for Engineered Garments colorful patchwork madras Bedford. What it came down to was brand Italia Independent‘s forsight to give a print to the normally monotone pea coat. Going the way of Made in Italy 2.0, Italian Independent, has been preaching independence, accessible luxury and trying to move beyond style, quality and craftsmanship. To move beyond, they’ve made innovation a part of fashion and have already used modern materials such as kevlar, DuPont’s Cordura, Goretex or carbon together with “noble” fabrics like Loro Piana’s cashmere. The coat above is inspired by the U.S. Navy standard issue coat with I-I’s uniquely checkered design , we’re just hoping they’ve kept the carbon fibre buttons and fully waterproof treatment from last year.
