The PEN Story

Stop motion is nothing new. However, in the case of The PEN Story, which involved the taking of about 60,000 pictures, of which 9,600 prints were made and add to this another 1,800 prints needed to complete the project still keeping in mind that there was no post production involved and you have one mighty little video on your hands. The video is part of Olympus’ newest add campaign for the Olympus Pen E-P1, released in homage to its 1960’s counterpart, the Pen half-frame SLR (if you missed it, we gave a quick run down here).

To give points where points are due, I have to give a shout out to the man behind the dokugyunyu YouTube account for being the alleged inspiration behind the campaign. Hailing from Japan, he made a similar stop motion video incorporating the same technique and style used in the above video. A bit different, but a lot the same, his video definitely deserves a peek. While he hasn’t received much in the way of mention from the people at Olympus, they do say imitation is the finest form of flattery.
