I come to you, our devoted readers, with a major dilemma… In exactly 333 days, I am taking the plunge so to speak and getting married. Being who I am, I’ve fought tooth & nail against going the traditional route of renting a tux, getting those plastic fake patent shoes, and looking like everyone else. I ain’t going out like that! So I’ve finally convinced my lovely bride of the benefits of me and my men sporting some sneakers on this fateful day, adding a little bit of personal style to the event. But of course, not just any old kicks will do. No sir, if we’re talking style, we mean all out freshness! I’ve decided against wearing any old Nike’s (though a trip down to 21 Mercer might be in the cards), and since I still wanna make my girl happy, I’ll need that luxurious look. The best option for me right now is looking to be some patent. The shine and texture mimic your typical dress shoe, yet being used on a sneaker gives it that street vibe. Perfect example are the Clae’s that have just dropped for Fall ‘09 (see after the jump). They’ve got all the swagger and elegance I’m looking for, yet they might not be the ideal shoe to wear with a suit. I’ve also recently picked up a pair of these patent low tops (picture above), at Zara of all places. While they were a quick fix in a time of desperation, the quality is lacking – they won’t hold up for much longer. At $30 though, they did their job. Another approach to take would be to look for something high-end, a Margiela, Lanvin or Kris Van Assche. Any one of those would definitely get some attention, but seeing as I’ll need to be picking up 5 pairs for the wedding party, I’d be foregoing any hope of honeymoon fun. No, I’ll be needing to watch the budget on this purchase.
This is a major dilemma. I may not be thinking straight, that’s why I’m opening it up to you all… what are your thoughts? Seen any sneakers recently that you think will tickle my fancy? Let me know, I implore you!
