DIOR HOMME SPORT

We can’t believe it’s taken this long to write about a fragrance, but here we are. Not too long ago, we were a group of Axe Body Spray’ers but now with young careers of our own, we felt it necessary to upgrade to a more ‘grown up’ one like Dior Homme Sport.  While we don’t know enough about this industry to give you a scientific or romantic description of it, such as “fresh, spicy, woody”,  “citron, cedarwood, ginger” or “energizing, masculine, and powerful” that allows you to “live boldly, freely, intensely, without breaks, every minute of the day”, we can tell you, it smells good, not overpowering, not headache-inducing, just good. While there’s a lot of new and old men’s fragrances out on the market and we haven’t tried them all, this is the first one we’ve come across we can all agree on. Remember fellas, a spray or two goes a long way, anything more and you’ll be this guy.

Diatech Funriki Custom Fixie Bikes

With everybody on the road with a fixed gear bike of their own, um, thank you Urban Outfitters X Republic, it’s great to see shops being true to the sport without compromising on style or technology. Kyoto-based Funriki, which launched in December, started merely as a bike shop for professional cyclists but has since grown into a premier destination for the customizable fixie-market using the same professional grade building principals. Like most in the industry, Funriki starts with a basic model whose wheels, chain, frame, saddle, pedals, and fame can be configured by the rider however, unlike most, they offer many high quality Funriki-made upgrades such as leather saddles and even, a handmade steel frame. Currently only available in Japan…making them now even more desirable.

BRUCE WEBER’S MONCLER FALL/WINTER ’09 CAMPAIGN

MONCLER x DOGS FALL/WINTER '09 CAMPAIGN

At first glance this print from Moncler’s Fall/Winter 2009 campaign looks out of place until you find out it’s a Bruce Weber concept and everything falls into place. The New York Times said it best when they summed it up as, “[the campaign] reminds us that advertising can often be more directional than editorial.” Rather than going the traditional route, Weber, working with Moncler owner, Remo Ruffini, decided to go with another angle in an effort to balance their hip image with fashion style. Among the executions: Weber had custom designed Moncler coats made for his Golden Retrievers, had several Moncler jackets made into a giant ball, and took a self portrait of himself in bed surrounded by cameras with what looks like a vintage Moncler suit in the background. Far from the norm of usual fashion photography, the creative opportunities are as endless as fashion itself and we for one, love the new direction.

The PEN Story

Stop motion is nothing new. However, in the case of The PEN Story, which involved the taking of about 60,000 pictures, of which 9,600 prints were made and add to this another 1,800 prints needed to complete the project still keeping in mind that there was no post production involved and you have one mighty little video on your hands. The video is part of Olympus’ newest add campaign for the Olympus Pen E-P1, released in homage to its 1960′s counterpart, the Pen half-frame SLR (if you missed it, we gave a quick run down here).

To give points where points are due, I have to give a shout out to the man behind the dokugyunyu YouTube account for being the alleged inspiration behind the campaign. Hailing from Japan, he made a similar stop motion video incorporating the same technique and style used in the above video. A bit different, but a lot the same, his video definitely deserves a peek. While he hasn’t received much in the way of mention from the people at Olympus, they do say imitation is the finest form of flattery.

Levi Vintage XX 501 Jeans

LEPHEDE40-01

I remember a time when the only pair of jeans I would wear was a pair or Levis from Levi Strauss & Co. With over a hundred an fifty years of history behind it, Levis is THE all American jean brand. The last several years have brought many new players into the American denim market and Levis has been quietly retooling itself and coming back as a serious player in the American-made jeans market. For one of it’s comebacks, Levis is using its classic 501 XX (which makes sense since the model marked the beginning of blue jeans). Since the original model was made to be worn over your street clothes while you worked in the mines, the limber mills or the railroad, or spent your day on a horse, the re-issued jean obviously has some tweaks like slimmer and straighter in the leg. The bottom fly red tab jean uses 14-ounce high end denim that is strong and develops its typical shades when washed. The new 501 XX are available now and you can order them here.

*CONTEST DETAILS + WINNERS (07/15) BELOW

All you really need to know about RETROSUPERFUTURE, otherwise known as SUPER, is that they are handmade in Italy, come with Zeiss lenses and are affordable. Starting with a classic wayfarer shape and putting their own spin and colors on them, SUPER has emerged as a savior of acetate sunglasses and the first to create a complete range of colorful fashion sunglasses by combining these characteristics with a high quality manufacturing process. Started by PIG Magazine founding brothers, Daniel and Simon Beckerman, they used their love for Italian haute-couture and flea markets as inspiration to create “fun eyewear” for themselves in their friends. Since then, in 2 very short years, SUPER is now available in 350 stores worldwide and has since done collaborations with Caliroots, Barneys NY, Alife, and seen on several people around town.

We caught up with Daniel Beckerman to find out why the future for SUPER is yet to come.

Detailed | Bose In-Ear Headphones

Bose® in-ear headphones

Know what I’m loving right now? My Bose In-Ear Headphones. There’s something to be said about having the absolute best of something. I’m not sure I’ll ever own the best car or even the best frying pan, but I did recently get something considered to the best in-ear headphones for my iPhone – the Bose in-ear headphones.

I was planning on getting an on-ear Bose QuietComfort 2 Acoustic NoiseCancellingheadphones, but I’m not a DJ, don’t plan on being a DJ, don’t want to look like a DJ, and something about playing Sebastien Tellier or Grizzly Bear through them just wouldn’t seem right. Priced at around $100 these aren’t the most expensive, but are a big step above the standard iPhone headphones. I decided upgrade after being shocked one too many times as if I was being punished for listening to Kid Cudi leaks.

I was reluctant to buy them after seeing my friend go through 3 pairs of the same ones in under a year, but if you can’t trust the opinion of a person who is willing to invest over $350 on Bose headsets, who can you trust? A defect was causing the plastic part holding the silicon tip to break off on previous versions but the good folks at Bose in Boston, assured me the new models had corrected this problem.

Straight up, these are the most I’ve ever spent on headphones, but they’ve also been the best I’ve ever had PERIOD. Exterior wise: incredible design and detailing. Portable. Convenient. The silicon tips come in 3 interchangeable sizes (which actually stay in place unlike its predecessors) so they stay snug in your ear while you run after the bus and deliver baselines and quality even if though they’re lower grade MP3’s. The one drawback is that there’s no mic/skip forward control however, I was never a fan of talking into stock iPhone headphones as it was just too close to donning a Bluetooth earpiece and being OK with it (you know what I’m talking about).

While the occasional MP3 listener won’t go the Bose route, novice audiophiles will find this to be a worthy option with incredible value, while the more dedicated may wish to go with an the on-ear Bose QuietComfort’s for maximum exterior noise canceling, something I wish I had on a recent flight. The Bose In-Ear Headphones are available on Amazon.com.

INTERVIEW: Meggs | Crime & Charity

3537404361_a83bd79d25_o-1

Meggs is a prominent figure out of the vibrant Melbourne, Australia graffiti art scene. His artwork reflects engaged energetic depictions of comic book heroes and villains, and subverted collages of pop culture icons mashed together into a visual symphony that blends graffiti and character painting with pop-art and abstract expressionism. A heavy artistic influence in 1980’s cartoons, comics, and Sci-Fi films and his frequent use of bold colorful graphics has catapulted him into notoriety in the ever-growing world of art + commerce (Meggs’ recent collaboration with skateboarding giant Stussy was a marked success).

Meggs is recognized as being one of Australia’s pioneering street to gallery artists. His work can be seen on the streets of Paris, London, and Tokyo among others, and has also been exhibited in galleries internationally including the National Gallery of Australia’s permanent ‘works on paper’ collection.

LimitedHype caught up with Meggs as he prepares for his first solo show in the United States

Lance Armstrong x Trek x Damien Hirst “Stages Project” Bike

hirst_armstrong

I generally try to stay away from sneak peak posts because I find I’m trying to write a whole story on a fraction of information, but this is just too good to pass up. After already riding bikes designed by Futura, Yoshimoto Nara, Marc Newson, we get a look at Lance Armstrong’s Trek bike designed by none other than Damien Hirst. The U.K. artist, known for pieces including a diamond-encrusted skull, contributed his design as a gift to Armstrong’s LIVESTRONG cancer charity as part of the Stages Project and will feature butterflies, not diamonds, on the frame and wheels (see them after the jump). For a taste of the amount of work an artist takes to do up a bike like this, check out the previous collaboration of Shepard Fairey x Trek and the behind the scenes video. Armstrong, currently seeking a record-extending eighth Tour title after coming out of retirement will ride this Hirst x Trek bike on the final stage of the Tour De France on July 26.

Be sure to check out more on Lance Armstrong and Nike’s collaboration on STAGES featuring over twenty renowned artists who have donated their time and creativity to express the LIVESTRONG message. Now on display at the Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin in Paris and coming to the U.S. in the Fall.
