I generally try to stay away from sneak peak posts because I find I’m trying to write a whole story on a fraction of information, but this is just too good to pass up. After already riding bikes designed by Futura, Yoshimoto Nara, Marc Newson, we get a look at Lance Armstrong’s Trek bike designed by none other than Damien Hirst. The U.K. artist, known for pieces including a diamond-encrusted skull, contributed his design as a gift to Armstrong’s LIVESTRONG cancer charity as part of the Stages Project and will feature butterflies, not diamonds, on the frame and wheels (see them after the jump). For a taste of the amount of work an artist takes to do up a bike like this, check out the previous collaboration of Shepard Fairey x Trek and the behind the scenes video. Armstrong, currently seeking a record-extending eighth Tour title after coming out of retirement will ride this Hirst x Trek bike on the final stage of the Tour De France on July 26.
Be sure to check out more on Lance Armstrong and Nike’s collaboration on STAGES featuring over twenty renowned artists who have donated their time and creativity to express the LIVESTRONG message. Now on display at the Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin in Paris and coming to the U.S. in the Fall.
