L.A.Times: Musée de la Contrefaçon, Paris

The LA Times has a great feature on Unifab and Paris’ Museum of Counterfeiting whose purpose since 1951, is to educate the population on the negative effects other than economical this underground market causes. We were just surprised something like this even exists. Although counterfeiting is nothing new, there’s no denying it’s widespread. Le Musée de la Contrefaçon breaks down how the industry has changed and how everybody can be affected by it, how dangerous it has become and how it’s evolved past targetting luxury brands only (only 5% of the counterfeiting market is on luxury items). Counterfitters have since moved on to everyday household products like razors, pregnancy tests and condoms. Makes for an interesting read, the whole article can be found here along with the evolution of the L.A. counterfeiting market here.
