The eighth annual Fanatic tournament was held on Manhattan’s West Side over the weekend, pitting teams from a variety of New York creative collectives against one another. If you follow Arkitip Intel’s blog, you are familiar with the Chinatown Soccer Club, a crew of artists, photographers, skateboarders and designers (which has also included Ryan McGinness and Mark Gonzales). Other teams included in the tourney were Opening Ceremony (winners of best jersey design), The Smile, United Bamboo, Diner Old Boys, PSYOP, Bowery United, dGi Dillingers, Nom de Hooligans, and Complex FC among a few others. FANATIC was created in 2002 as an immersive experience of soccer and community in New York and is hosted by Adidas, who with the help of the teams had a few custom jerseys produced. In case you were wondering, dGi Dillingers won it all after beating Bowery United 1-0 in a classic match.
