bernhard-willhelm-x-mykita

It’s only been 5 years since the world was introduced to German “techno-chic” eyewear brand Mykita but right from the get go the German company has been getting attention with their classic and avantgarde elegant designs like FLASH frames we previously covered. Mykita has collaborated with world renowned fashion designer Bernhard Willhelm who made some waves with his work on Bjork’s Volta album cover and is known for his street, fun, and chic style. The two got together earlier this year and created these stunning shades that take inspiration from winter sports, specifically the skiers at the 1976 Innsbruck Winter Olympics. The frames definitely give the wearer an edge in style over the standard clunky goggles with a look and feel like their molded to the face. The aerodynamically designed aviator frames are made of ultra-lightweight sheet-metal with 3 monochrome & mirrored colorways and the square Uschi model available in silver/black. The limited edition shades are now available exclusively at Opening Ceremony.

Leica S2 DSLR Camera

leica-s2

If you’re as big a fan of Leica cameras as us, you’ve been expecting this upcoming release of the S2 DSLR. What you might not big a fan of is the price tag 0f approximately $23,000, and that’s just for the body. Set to drop in October, the camera is pretty impressive; a 37.5 megapixel, 30x45mm sensor, a sapphire glass monitor screen and ‘Platinum Service’ support package (you will have to fork out another 5k for that though). Advertising and fashion photographer Robert Grischek recently put the S-system to the test in the studio, and though you wouldn’t expect him to blast it (it is up on Leica’s site), you can’t help but agree with a professional’s opinion. The camera is smaller than its high-end competitors, allowing for easy maneuverability and the quality of the picture, well, it reflects the price tag. You can’t help but love what Leica has been doing as of late, constantly innovating and releasing top-notch cameras.

The entire S range, including a full lineup of lenses, accessories and price points can be viewed here.

Nike Tennis Classic Vintage Sneakers

Nike Tennis Classic Vintage

Generally not the largest fan of vintage-inspired sneakers from Nike, however the colorway on these tennis classics are too irresistible. Maybe it’s 90′s Chi-town throwback style we’re liking. For the last few releases, the Nike Tennis Classic has generally featured minimalist off white bases with flashes of color on the back tab (yawn), so it’s great to see them stepping it up with an all black leather upper with contrasting laces. There’s also a white/fluorescent yellow colorway that’ll be available for Fall 2009 but if you’re not particularly fond of the vintage-inspired look, the Nike Sportswear All Court’s are maybe your bag with a classic low cut silouette, modernized, and the option to go with an APC collaboration version.

Rachel Comey Spring 2010

rachel comey spring

First launched as a brand in 2001, Rachel Comey footwear has always been inspired by vintage-looking designs with a rock n’ roll feel. The kind of style that make a hipster say: “Damn! I need to wear those with ultra-short womans’ shorts!” In all seriousness, Rachel brings cool to the dress shoe. And while they might not be timeless, they are perfectly designed for now – which is exactly when you’ll want to be wearing them. From chukkas, to oxfords, to loafers, the Spring Collection offers us some interesting designs and colors. But the most surprising detail, even if it’s extremely simple, is the colored soles. Matching green soles to patent burgundy, or blue with faded brown leather takes the seriousness out of the shoe, yet injects casual sophistication into a shoe that could easily be paired with everything from a Thom Browne suit, to Nom de Guerre shorts.

Firma Gropius Bag

This bag has been making the rounds on the Interwebz and rightfully so. Berlin based FIRMA, know for cutting-edge, high class, punk-inspired clothing, is honoring their 90th anniversary of the Bauhaus (architectural) movement with a convertible bag in honor of Germain architect, Walter Groupius. COMME des GARCONS Polka Dot Wallet Collection

comme-des-garcons-polka-dot-debossed-dot-wallets-1

We’re fans of Comme des Garcons. Everything from their collaborations to basic t-shirts always kill it. The wallets on the other hand, are a different story, however, we appreciate the fact that smaller pieces from upscale brands make the normally unattainable, well, somewhat attainable.  Something about the length, patterns, and zippers often conjure of memories of a women’s make-up bag, even though they are unisex. Allegedly. We realize it’s blasphemes to put a brand like CDG on blast, but when you break it down fairly like one does for other brands, how many can you think of that kill it in all areas? It’s rare you love every single release. These newest releases feature a polka dot and debossed polka dot pattern in a variety of different colors and sizes, some of which, are more fitting to be carried in a man-bag versus your back pocket. Your call.  In the meantime, we will busy ourselves with other anticipated releases from Comme des Garcons. The wallets, available here.

Ulisses Morato | Contemporary Mountain Home

morato-contemporary-mountain-home-6

Simply the most breathtaking home I’ve seen in awhile, located in Minas Gerais, Brazil, Ulisses Morato managed to construct this modern design using mostly local materials and workmanship. I appreciate any architecture that takes full advantage of it’s location both in design, materials and geography. The first floor being completely transparent so that it highlights the boundless views and the glass walls open for complete exposure to the benefits of the Brazilian climate. Thanks to Swipelife for finding this gem, more pictures of this after the jump.

Pidge Table

pidge-table

The slick looking Pidge table was designed by Olivia Marsh who just finished showing off her work at the New Designers Exhibition in London last week. The London based design student focuses on high quality furniture manufacturing as well as innovation of design and aesthetics. Olivia explains “The idea of feet as a form of scaffolding battled with my continuous inspiration from nature, to produce Pidge, a sculptural two-legged table that incorporates both sharp angles alongside sumptuous curves. The high grained walnut finish was chosen to accentuate the piece’s natural curves flowing from its otherwise boxy structure.” You can check out more of her work here.

Bianchi x ACNE | One Smart Ride

We originally heard of this project back in January on Wallpaper and remember thinking, with all the influx of collaborations as of late, it was great to see brands branching out into collaborations outside of their usual realm of expertise. Opening Ceremony has some great close up pics of Legendary Italian bicycle manufacturer Bianchi and Swedish fashion label ACNE, collaboration on two stylish vehicles – one with the traditional drop and one with a modern flat handlebar. The classic Pista bicycle is customized by ACNE to feature old school Bianchi type set, embossed 70′s style suede saddle, drop down handle bars, and unique frame color. Available in yellow (our favorite) and pink. For inquiries, contact Acne Studio, 10 Greene Street, (212)625-2828.

See more pictures after the jump.
