Seattle-based artist Mike Leavitt participates in a movement that can be categorized as Pop art for the twenty first century. Lucky for us, Leavitt is a fellow sneakerhead. His latest work uses cheap, disposable material (cardboard) to replicate some of the most influential sneakers of our time. The cardboard shoes are built durable enough to wear, but even the rigid construction would succumb to a few drops of rain. The shoes will be installed like a thrift shop with other Leavitts creations, action figures, Barack Obama pieces, wood carvings, and other small collectibles at Fuse Gallery in NYC.
The “Don’t Stop Object Shopping” show opens this Saturday, March 21st.
