ANA CARDIM: GARBAGE PIN

A really good idea, although I’m not sure how many people would want to have their cancer stick butts and used gum on display. Arguably, one of the better ways to make a statement about mass consumerism, environmentalism and fashion, without having to say a thing. From contemporary jewelery designer, Ana Cardim, it is made from metallic silver and comes complete with extra, removable, transparent mini garbage bags and plastic wire to keep it fastened. The designer explains, “The choice of materials used (silver and plastic bags), provokes the confrontation of concepts such as value and waste. Silver as a noble metal is opposed to plastic bags, used and discarded in our society in frightening amounts.” More information available here.

Wow. I really like this color. More than just an I-support-breast-cancer-type of like. New for their Spring/Summer 2009 collection, Lanvin has unveiled their popular high top sneaker in a ‘dusty pink’ with dark mauve suede, charcoal calf leather heel, toe cap and contrast trim, dusty pink satin tongue and padded pink satin above the ankle. I’m a straight guy that just used the words pink, mauve, padded and satin all in the same sentence.  Available here.

Cars in the 30′s had real style that’s missing from today’s models. Although the low cut windows do remind us of the Chrysler 300. Above,  “The Sinister”, James Holmes’ creation using Ford’s classic models as his inspiration while using modern tech under the hood. It’s Hot Wheels comes to life.
