I rarely get in on the NIKE posts on LH, but I’m getting into this one for nostalgia purposes. These ‘new releases’ of the original Air Pegasus from ‘89 were the FIRST pair of Nike’s I ever owned. I was 8, and I copped them on a trip to Hong Kong. Yes, even back then my kicks were imported! To this day, I still remember my first experience of putting my foot into a Nike shoe. Everything about it, the fit, the feel, the colours, the shape, everything is still memorable.
I eventually made my way back home across the Pacific at summer’s end and showed them off to all my friends on the first day of school. I was treated like royalty. On the first day alone, I got two different kinds of cookies, rainbow chocolate chip from a pretty girl and oatmeal chocolate chip from the resident bully. I had it good. On top of that, I kicked ass in dodgeball that year (I swore it was the shoes that gave me my athletic ability). These aren’t the flashiest, rarest, killer collab, whatever, Nike has ever released, but for me, they will always be the greatest pair of shoes I’ve ever owned. Available here.
