Jean Dunand’s Tourbillon Orbital
Tue, Dec 16, 2008 by Scott

Recession? What recession? I’m talking about one of the world’s most expensive, and most beautiful watches here! Uber-luxury at its finest, it took constructor Christophe Claret 5 yrs to research and develop the mechanics behind this piece of art. Now it has been out for a while, but I dare you to find me a watch as sophisticated mechanically and aesthetically as this one. What is so revolutionary about the Tourbillon you ask? ahem….
The dial materials include gold, black opal, rare hardstones, fossils, ruby heart, fossilized anaconda and Dalmatian jasper. The window at 3 o’clock displays a vertical needle that moves between F (full) and E (empty) like the fuel gauges in vintage cars. I could write a book about the innovative three-dimensional mechanics… but I won’t.
So sit back, enjoy the beauty, and dream of the day when you can drop enough cash to get one on your wrist without security guards giving you the death stare.
